Steamed Jam Roly Poly.

  • 200 g flour.
  • 75 g margarine.
  • Warm jam.
  • A pinch salt.
  • 5-7 tbs water or milk.
  1. Place a saucepan of water on to boil, over which the pudding is to steam.
  2. Grease a pudding basin, and have a piece of grease proof  paper or foil which is cut a little larger the the top of the basin.
  3. Sift the flour and salt.
  4. Rub in the margarine with the finger tips.
  5. Mix into a rather stiff dough with water or milk.
  6. Lift onto a floured board and press into a round shape.
  7. Roll out 5 mm thickness and spread with warm jam to within 3 cm of the edge all round.
  8. Wet edges and roll up firmly.
  9. Place into the prepared basin.
  10. Cover with foil paper.
  11. Steam for one and a half hours.
  12. Turn out onto a hot plate and serve with a sweet sauce.
